Posted by

Don’t miss the traditional Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Altars at the 11:30 a.m. coffee hour this Sunday, November 3. This custom comes from our Hispanic community, which remembers loved ones with their favorite foods, and is now widely celebrated among our whole Cathedral family. Be sure to check out the altar presented by our Children’s Formation Classes.

Second Helpings Says Thank You!

Posted by

Dear Dean Carlsen and Members of Christ Church Cathedral, for generously providing funding for a new dock cooler as part of your parish stewardship giving in 2013. It takes an entire community to fulfill our mission. We feel truly blessed to have the members of Christ Church Cathedral as our partners on that journey. Second Helpings increased the number of hunger relief meals last year by over 20% and plans this year to deliver an additional 100,000 meals to children, seniors and families in need. Adding your additional cooler to the dock will support efforts to meet that goal while facilitating the distribution of more milk, yogurt, fresh fruit and other healthy perishable foods to 70 agencies in greater Indianapolis.

--Jennifer Vigran, CEO, Second Helpings

All Souls' Requiem: A Service to Grieve and Remember, Nov. 3

Posted by

On Sunday, November 3, our Cathedral community will gather at 7:00 p.m. for our annual All Souls' Requiem. There are very few places in our culture today where we can gather to remember, mourn, and grieve the death of our loved ones. We hope you will be with us to remember all those who, in the words of the Book of Common Prayer, we "love but see no longer." Our Cathedral Choirs will offer the Requiem Mass of Herbert Howells as part of the liturgy, and we welcome the addition of names of your loved ones who are no longer living to be read during the service. Please email names (and, when necessary, pronunciations) to Ellen Shaughnessy at ellens@cccindy.org no later than October 28.

Indy’s inaugural Festival of Faiths offers us the opportunity to share the joy of our city’s many unique faith traditions. As a house of prayer for the city, Christ Church Cathedral will lead a kaleidoscopic procession of allied participating faith traditions. Our Bishop will be featured in inter-faith discussions. Our Cathedral Choirs and Coro Hispano will sing before the assembled community, which will number in the thousands. Our Vergers and Thurifers will lead a grand procession. There will be events, games, and more than 80 booths representing faiths and missions throughout the city.

Parishioner Giving Funds A New Cooler for Second Helpings!

Posted by
by Ken File, Stewardship Ministry Chair and Vestry Member

We are so excited to share with you news about our 2013 Stewardship Campaign! As you know, we challenged our parish membership to increase our personal giving last year by $50,000. Through the first six months of 2013, we have hit our goal. As such we feel comfortable making a grant for outreach of up to $25,000.

The Missions Committee has recommended we make a grant to Second Helpings to purchase a dock freezer for their efforts to combat hunger in our city. Second Helpings has increased their food programs by 20% last year, providing close to 3,500 meals per day. They are planning more than a 15% increase in meals served this year. Our gift will be essential to those efforts.

Should giving continue at our current pace, we hope to be in a position to make a similar grant at the close of the year. At that time, the Missions Committee will be seeking your input to help determine what worthy cause we will support with the remainder of our increased giving.

In the next couple of days, you will receive the 2014 Stewardship Appeal. As the outreach needs in our community continue to grow, we hope you will consider increasing your giving again. If this increase takes place, then your impact will again be felt immediately in our immediate area. What a great way to see the resources we steward doing God's work for those who most need it.
