David Briggs Concert: Feb. 16

Posted by

On Sunday, Feb. 16 at 4:30 p.m. internationally renowned concert organist and improviser, David Briggs, will perform a concert of works by J.S. Bach,  Franck, Duruflé and Cochereau.

When asked why he loves to improvise (a skill for which he is renowned the world over), Mr. Briggs shared the following:

"I have loved to improvise since I was six years old. I went through four piano teachers by the age of 10 because I wouldn't practice my pieces and scales properly! For me, improvisation is the sincerest form of music making - responding completely to the inspiration of the moment. It's a mixture of left and right brain - organization and creativity. You are always trying to create the illusion of a written piece, but the creative process is speeded up 100,000 times. Of course, there is no 'delete' button, but there is a certain excitement about living on the edge....!"

One Member's Experience with Catechumenate

Posted by

Still on the fence about whether or not Catechumenate is the right fit for you? Here is one person's experience:

"My dad had been going back to Christ Church Cathedral for sometime...after our family had bounced around to different parishes over the years. I decided to go back with him one Sunday and saw an announcement for the Catechumenate. I thought: what better way to come back to the church than to take 'Episcopal 101' and really dive deep into what is was that I believed? It couldn't have been a better decision. The group in the Catechumenate was amazing. We had discussions each week about our faith in an environment that encouraged questioning everything. It was exactly what I was looking for, a constancy and fellowship in my life that I didn't realize I had been missing or needed so much. On May 17, 2012, I was confirmed after completing the Catechumenate and really understanding what I was saying yes to in my baptismal vows."
