Worship: Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Schedule

Posted by

We especially welcome visitors and newcomers to be with us on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!

Christmas Eve, Wednesday, December 24, 2014

3:00 p.m.: Children's Pageant of the Nativity and Holy Eucharist*
A child-friendly worship service. From shepherds watching their flocks by night to animals that sometimes escape the stable to wise men and women who follow a star, everyone has a part to play. Walk-on roles are available for children who are newcomers or are visiting. Simply see an usher prior to the service. This liturgy lasts one hour and child care is available.

5:00 p.m.: A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols*
This Christmas Eve liturgy unites the beautiful readings of Holy Scripture with classic, traditional hymns and anthems of the season. (Cathedral opens for early seating at 4:15 p.m.; early arrivals will be directed to our Parish Hall until the Children's Pageant concludes.)

7:30 p.m.: Santa Misa (in Spanish)*
This liturgy, conducted in Spanish (though English speakers are welcome), begins with the Hispanic custom of Joseph and Mary knocking on the doors of the church, seeking a place to sleep for the night, as they find no room in the inn. The doors are opened and a festive celebration follows, with festive readings from Scriptures and Holy Eucharist.

11:00 p.m.: Festal Choral Eucharist
The most festive of all our Christmas liturgies, our Choral Eucharist offers a ceremonial procession, readings from Holy Scripture, a sermon, Holy Eucharist, and the customary singing of Silent Night by candlelight. As the church in the heart of our city, we ring in the birth of Jesus Christ at midnight, offering light and hope and joy to the world. Bishop Catherine Waynick will be our guest preacher and will offer the traditional Pontifical Blessing at the end of the liturgy.

*Nursery care available at the 3:00, 5:00, and 7:30 p.m. liturgies.

Christmas Day, Thursday, December 25, 2014, 10:00 a.m.
On Christmas morning, we offer a traditional Holy Eucharist with hymns. Visitors and guests are most welcome for this one hour service.

Where do I park? Free parking is available for all Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services at the Express Park/EZPark Garage, located at the corner of Pennsylvania and Market Streets. Bring your ticket to the service and an usher will validate it for you.

An Update from our Senior Warden--February 13, 2014

Posted by

Published in CCC’s E-Blast on Thursday, February 13, 2014

To My Fellow Parish Members:

It is an honor to be selected to serve Christ Church Cathedral as your new Senior Warden. Dean Carlsen asked if I was interested in serving in this capacity shortly after the first of the year.  I prayed and went through my own discernment process, speaking with many of you.  I humbly allowed my name to be considered shortly before the annual meeting.

This mantle of leadership is made lighter due to our excellent set of officers and fellow Vestry members. I will use this column as a regular e-vestry report to keep you informed.

First Things First:

The parish survey was very clear in that you wanted to know more about what is happening at the Vestry level and other information in the parish.  I will make sure to report monthly on what is happening at the Vestry level with minutes posted as soon as they are approved.  There is so much "good news" to share (Strategic Visioning Update, Results of the Parish Survey, Vestry Leader Retreat Discussion, Formation of our new Christ Church Cathedral Foundation, Stewardship Report, Outreach Initiatives).  It could be like drinking from a fire hose!  In the coming weeks, I hope to update you on each of these areas.  I have also asked that the reports from the Annual Meeting be posted for all of you to see who could not make it to the Parish Meeting.

Your New Officers:

The first meeting of the new Vestry was called to order by Dean Carlsen on Saturday, February 8.  After I was appointed Senior Warden, he turned the meeting over to me as chair.  The first order of business was to elect the remaining officers as follows: Barbie Russell, Junior Warden; Scott Spiegelberg, Secretary; Michael Fisher, Treasurer. Other members of your Vestry include: Paul Valliere, John Zimmerman, Julie Breuninger, Audrey McFarland, Norm White, and Erick Gama.

My Promise:

I will endeavor to the best of my ability to provide complete reports of substance and meaning following vestry meetings.  Increased communications will be a major focus throughout my term as Senior Warden.  With the strategic visioning work now moving into the implementation phase, there will be a lot of work to do that is exciting and will require us all to be involved as we live out our Mission: Widening the Circle of God's Embrace with Heart and Voice

I am so humbled by those who have gone before me in leadership positions at Christ Church Cathedral.  With God's help, I look forward to working with you on the work we have been called to do.  That is all for now.

Faithfully Yours,

Ken File, Senior Warden

Fielmente,
Ken File, Guardián Mayor
